Ball Bearing Shot

ballbearingshot (1)This is another really simple project that only takes about 15 minuets to make. It is a small device that uses the explosive charge from a Party Popper to shoot small projectiles like ball bearings. Its really just a little gun for shooting small targets.

Materials used

• 8mm x 100mm rawl plug (available from any DIY store)
• Party Popper
• External threaded tip/cone from a pen (see pictures below)
• 5mm ball bearings

Construction of the shot

First off you need the right items or similar compatible items. The picture below-left shows the items that I have used. The hardest to get hold of is the external threaded tip/cone from a pen - you might just have to look around a stationary store until you find one (see the picture below to get a closer look at one). The explosive charge from a Party Popper is simply removed from the Popper carefully. I decided to use a rawl plug for the barrel of the shot because I found that the curved open end of the shot allowed good finger support when firing the shot. A rawl plug is used as a medium to secure large screws into an interior wall - an example would be for shelving. You can easily obtain a rawl plug from any DIY store.

The first thing to do, is to cut the end off the rawl plug as shown in the picture. The pen tip/cone can then be screwed into this cut end - make sure its a tight fit; if not then glue it in.

The last thing to do is to thread the string of the explosive charge into the end of the shot and pull it through. You can now load a ball bearing or other projectile into the shot.

Firing the shot

This is just a small guideline to operating the device.

• Thread string of the explosive device into the shot and pull through pen tip/cone.
• Load a projectile, I use and preffer ball bearings.
• Hold the curved end of the shot, aim and pull sharply on the string.
